At Fairton we place a strong emphasis on our students ability in reading, writing, oral language and mathematics, as well as their social development. We are mindful of developing balanced classroom programmes in line with the requirements of the New Zealand Curriculum Framework. An integral part of our classroom programmes is to meet the learning needs of our students through grouping according to individual ability and providing stimulating challenges to aid progress. Sport plays a vital role in the development of social skills through promoting team work, co-operation, participation, positive sporting attitudes and enjoyment. Students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of sporting and recreational activities.
We encourage each student to develop their individual talents,
valuing each students contribution to our school ... Students have the opportunity to participate in local County Sports and for some children there are other opportunities to compete with students from schools in Christchurch. Art and music help to contribute to the overall development of the child. As well as comprehensive classroom programmes we provide students with opportunities to further develop their creativity by offering extra curricula activities including guitar and recorder tuition, opportunities to take part in art competitions and exhibitions as well as an annual music festival and speech competition.
